Learn How Easy It Is to Create Paper Flowers Using Your Cricut
I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for Spring to get here. So ready that I’m making paper flowers to Springify my classroom…and maybe even my office 😉. While I did’t create the design, I can show you just how easy it is to create the perfect paper flower…or, in this case, rose 🌹.
At the beginning of my third year of teaching, I decided to decorate my room in a bit of a shabby chic decor. One of the things I did was go on Amazon and buy some big paper flowers. As soon as they came in, I started putting them up in the classroom. While I was decorating my classroom with these beautiful flowers, my dear friend and colleague said the dreaded words: “You know you can make these, right?”
You know what happens now…I learned how to make them and found the perfect template on Etsy for the most beautiful roses. Keep reading for the tutorial below so you can make your beautiful roses. I even have the video tutorial on my YouTube channel.

How to Create Paper Flowers the Easy Way
Step 1: Get the Rose Template #2 by Pearl Paper Flowers
To get your Rose Template #2, go to Pearl Paper Flowers’ Etsy shop. At the time of this recording, her templates are 50% off. Once purchased, download the digital file on your computer. Her file contains a PDF and SVG version of the template. So you can choose to cut the template out by hand or with your Cricut.
Step 2: Preparing Your Paper Flowers to Be Cut
Upload the Rose Template to Design Space. Choose what size paper flower you want to make. A sizing chart comes with the template. Once you have your size, duplicate the piece until you have six. Send your pieces to your cutting machine.
Step 3: Cutting Out Your Paper Flower Template
While you can use the standard grip mat for cardstock, it is recommended to use the light grip mat. I used the standard grip, so you can see that it is possible (and I don’t have the light grip in a 12 x 24 mat). You just have to be very careful with your cardstock, or it could tear.
I used the cardstock entracit cuts setting to cut my flowers with more pressure. It’s probably not necessary, but I believe it the old saying: Better safe than sorry. With your cardstock on your mats, let your Cricut cut away. When complete, remove the pieces slowly and carefully.
Step 4: Prepping Your Paper Flowers
Before you can begin putting the pieces together, you must prep them. You need to curl both sides of each petal inwards. Remember, each piece has six petals. Once you have all six petals on all six pieces curled inward, separate the pieces into two groups of three.
Step 5: Putting Your Paper Flowers Together
Piece 1
1. Fold each petal at the base (where the base/circle ends and the petal begins). Take any two petals that are across from each other and fold them into one another. Attach them with hot glue.
2. Working with petals across from each other, attach the petals to the center.
3. Make sure to leave a space between the new petal and the center.
4. Check the bottom after each piece to make sure you have somewhat of a circle and the petals aren’t bulging.
Pieces 2 & 3
5. Hot glue the next piece to the bottom.
6. Make sure the curls are facing up (towards the previous piece).
7. Start with any petal. Glue only one side to the previous row. Don’t forget to leave space between the previous piece and the petal.
8. Take any two petals that are across from each other and fold them into one another. Attach them with hot glue.
9. Take any two petals that are across from each other and fold them into one another. Attach them with hot glue.
10. Take any two petals that are across from each other and fold them into one another. Attach them with hot glue.
11. Take any two petals that are across from each other and fold them into one another. Attach them with hot glue.
12. Take any two petals that are across from each other and fold them into one another. Attach them with hot glue.
Pieces 4, 5, & 6
13. Glue the next piece to the bottom of the circle. Make sure you are lining up the circles.
14. The curls of the petals should be facing down with the last three pieces.
15. Starting with any petal, place your thumb and middle finger under the petal and your index finger on top of the petal when you glue it to the previous row. This helps give your petals the flare they need.
16. Glue each petal, one at a time, in this manner.
17. Pieces 5 & 6 will be attached the same way, EXCEPT you need to glue the pieces so that the new petals fall between the petals of the previous row.
18. Once all pieces are glued on, you will have a paper flower.
