Learn How To Create the Perfect Gift For Grandparents
Grandparents love anything that has their grandbabies names. And when you combine grandparents and Easter, you get grandparents’ bunnies. You know I couldn’t resist! This tutorial is so cute and there are many different things you can do to personalize it more than what I did with it. The sky’s the limit on how you can decorate your little bunnies. I kept it simple, for the most part.
I’ve always wanted to make something that showcased all of my grandbabies’ names. Something that could have more added to it when my kids (who are all adults now) had more or when my grandbabies started having kids. Of course, that’s going to be a hot minute before that last part happens. And my mom needed one too. Don’t we all though?

How to Make a Grandparent Sign
Step 1: Prep Your Bunnies
The first step in this project is to paint your bunnies. I chose to paint mine a matte chalk white. One coat would have been enough, but two coats on the front was better. The sides only received one coat and none on the back. Paint these first so they will have plenty of time to dry before you have to put your vinyl on them.
Step 2: Prep the Designs and Create the names
To get the design, go to Victori’s Creations’ Vault. Enter the password to access The Vault (the password can be found in each email I send out). Look for design #015 – Grandparent’s Bunny Sign SVG file and download it to your device.
As soon as they are downloaded to your device, you will be able to upload the files into Design Space. Once the files are uploaded, you’ll need to resize them to fit into your area. Next, you will want to create your grandchildren’s names. To create their names in Design Space, click on the ‘T’ in the left column. Then type out the names you want to use and select the font that you like. Make sure you don’t have thin spots in your font. If you do, it might not cut or weed well. Don’t forget to check the sizes.
Step 3: Cut Out the Vinyl
Now that you have prepared your designs, check that you have the correct machine selected and click ‘Make it’. You will want to select the material you are using and your cut pressure. I always use the more option. Now it’s time to check your blade to make sure it is free of any debris. Add your vinyl to your standard grip mat with the shiny or colored side up. Finally, you will add your mat to your cutting machine and click load. Once it has loaded, press the go button.
Step 4: Weed the Vinyl
It is now time to remove all of the excess vinyl from your phrases and names. I like to start on the small areas inside of the letters, then move to the bigger pieces outside of the letters. Be careful when removing the vinyl, because it can tear easily. I also like to use a pair of scissors to cut any big pieces as I go to help keep it manageable.
Step 5: Attach the Vinyl to the Sign and Bunnies
The first thing you want to do is wipe down your sign and bunnies. You don’t want anything to get trapped under your vinyl. Next, lay your transfer tape over your design. Use your scraper tool to help the vinyl stick to your transfer tape. Slowly remove the transfer tape with the vinyl away from the vinyl backing.
Because the transfer tape is clear, you will be able to see exactly how you want it to appear on your sign and bunnies. Carefully lay your design where you want it and use your scraper to help adhere it to your sign and bunnies. Be especially careful on the bunnies since the lettering is so small. Next, take a top corner of the transfer tape and slowly peel it down until your design is off of the transfer tape and securely on your sign.
When adding vinyl on wood, it is sometimes best to seal your vinyl with a coat of modge podge to keep your vinyl from peeling off. I added one coat of modge podge to the signs and to the bunnies to help them stick.
Step 6: Attach the Bunnies to the Sign
The last step in this project is to attach the bunnies to the sign. Before you attach the bunnies, lay them out so you can see how you want them to appear. Once you have them set up how you want them, you will attach a string or ribbon on the back of the bunnies using hot glue. The string should go up the center of them back on all of the (per column), leaving the last bunny with the string going down only half of the back. Leave enough string going past the head on the last bunny you add so you will be able to hot glue the same string to the back of the sign. Repeat for each column of bunnies.
