Learn How To Add Glitter Vinyl to Your Make-Up Bag
No one wants a boring make-up bag. After all, the contents in the bag are to make us pretty, right? Well, to highlight our beauty anyway. So, why would we want the outside to be boring? With a little bit of glitter iron on vinyl, we can upgrade our make-up bag from drab to fab in no time!
Have you ever looked at something and thought, “I can make that”? That’s the price we pay for being crafters. Well, that’s how I feel about make-up bags. Plus, when I make it, I can put my personality into it and really make it my own. It’s always better when we can add our own pazzazz.

How to Upgrade Your Make-Up Bag Using Glitter Iron On Vinyl
Step 1: Measure Your Make-Up Bag
Before you begin any project, you should always know how much space you have to work with. This lets you know how big, or small, your design can be. Any measuring tape will work to measure the height and width of your design area. I use tailor’s tape, or sewing tape, because they are ultra-flexible.
When you are measuring the area you are going to put your design, make sure that you only measure the part of the make-up bag that can hold the vinyl. Remember, it’s always better to under measure than to over measure.
Step 2: Create Your Design
You can get your design by creating it yourself or by purchasing it from someone. I chose to create my own design using Design Space and Access images. Once you have your images, create a design box using a square with the same dimensions as your make-up bag. This will help you to not make your design too big.
Add text to your images to really glam them up. This is where you really get to shine. You can be funny or add a cute saying. I decided to be cute. Although, I did spell sparkle wrong, and, of course, I didn’t notice until I was editing my tutorial video. That’s okay though. I will just use that bag as my own, and let my ‘sprakle’ shine.
Step 3: Cut and Weed Your Design
Now that you have your design, it’s time to break out your Cricut machine. Layer your vinyl on your mat and make sure you have the shiny side down. Don’t forget to mirror your image before cutting, or your words will be backwards on your make-up bag. And check your blade before cutting too!
Once you’ve cut out your design, you will need to weed it out. Be very careful with this step. Although iron on is very easy to weed, it is also easy to rip your design. Don’t rush this step. It is easier to get all of the vinyl from the inside of the letters and designs before weeding the bigger pieces.
Step 4: Prep Your Make-Up Bag
To prep your bag, you will want to preheat your cosmetic bag for about 5 seconds. This helps pull any moisture from your bag and will help your vinyl stick more easily. While I did skip this step (not purposely) and it didn’t hurt anything, I highly recommend not skipping this step.
Step 5: Apply Your Vinyl to Your Make-Up Bag
Now that your bag has been preheated, it is time to apply your vinyl. You will notice that your iron on is on sticky paper, so you technically don’t need to use heat resistant tape. I prefer to use it so that I know my image won’t shift and mess up. Especially since we will be using the Cricut Mini Press.
With your mini press on the highest setting and ready to go, place a piece of butcher paper over your design and press for 15 seconds using firm pressure and constant movement. Repeat this step over the entire design. Once your vinyl is cool to the touch, you can slowly remove the film from your design. If anything sticks, reapply the butcher paper and repeat the heating process.
