Learn How To Create a Valentine Wreath With Dollar Tree Deco Mesh
Are you like me and like to decorate for every holiday? With Valentine’s Day only 9 days away, I thought it was time to finally make that wreath that I’ve been wanting to make. Fortunately, you can get most everything from Dollar Tree…or as I like to call it now, the Dollar Twenty-five Tree.
I’ve been wanting to make floral wreaths for a few years now, but never really thought about a deco mesh wreath. That is until I started seeing them everywhere I looked. And how beautiful are they, right! If you are new to deco mesh or you are using the Dollar Tree deco mesh, I suggest starting with the pouf/poof (sometimes called the bubble) method. This will help you get accustomed to using it.

How To Create a Valentine Wreath With Dollar Tree Deco Mesh
Step 1: Prepare Your Deco Mesh
Before you begin doing anything with your deco mesh, you will need to cut your chenille stems. I cut mine in four inch pieces, which gave me three pieces per stem. You will need these to attach your deco mesh to your wreath form.
To prepare your deco mesh, you will need to place the two colors in containers that are next to each other. Then place the colors next to each other. You can place one color on top of the other, but it is a little more difficult when fluffing them out. Add one chenille stem about an inch to an inch and a half from the end.
Now it’s time to start on your poufs/poofs. Lay your two deco mesh colors out side by side on or next to a ruler. I used one of my self-healing mats because it has rulers/grids on the back side and I wouldn’t have to worry about anything slipping. Measure out eight inches and pinch your deco mesh.
Now that you have your deco mesh colors pinched together at eight inches, take one chenille stem and wrap it tightly around where you have the deco mesh pinched together. Twist the chenille stem twice and separate the ends. This will help when adding it to the wreath form. Continue adding one chenille stem every eight inches.
Step 2: Add Your Deco Mesh to the Wreath
Now that your deco mesh has been prepared, it’s time to add it to your wreath form. When using the Dollar tree wreath form, you will add six poufs/poofs to each section. The wreath from Hobby Lobby can have between six and eight. To add your deco mesh, place it on the center bars on the wreath form. Add the first chenille stem to one of the cross bars so it doesn’t move while you work. You’ll add the last stem on the same bar.
Step 3: Fluff Out Your Loops
You can choose to complete this step either after each section or after you’ve attached all of the deco mesh to the wreath form. To fluff out your poufs/poofs, pull the two colors apart and spread each color out. Remember to alternate colors to give your wreath more character. If you are using three colors, you can choose to alternate two of the colors and leave one as the center color.
Step 4: Trim Your Deco Mesh
Once you have all of your poufs/poofs fluffed out, you will want to examine your wreath and trim any stray pieces of deco mesh that may have frayed some. Generally speaking, you probably won’t have much to trim, but it does make it look more tidy or put together in the end.
Step 5: Add Your Centerpiece to the Wreath
Your wreath is not done yet. Now you get to decorate the center of the wreath. Of course, you don’t have to complete this part, but it does seem to give it that finishing touch. What you are using as your center will determine how many chenille stems you will need. For this part of the project, you will want whole chenille stems, not the cut ones. Since I used the heart decoration, I am using three chenille stems. Hot glue the stems to the back of the centerpiece (like the picture). Fold your chenille stems in half and have at least half an inch of the center flat on the centerpiece.
Once the hot glue dries completely, set the wreath on top of the centerpiece, face down. Make sure your chenille stems are coming through the center of the wreath. Attach the centerpiece to the wreath using the chenille stems by twisting them on the bars of the wreath form. Once you have all of the chenille stems attached to the wreath form, you can turn over your wreath. At this point, you can choose to leave your wreath as is, or you can add a bow. I chose to leave mine as is.
