Creating a keepsake shadow box is great for preserving memories of people or things that you love. This September will mark 6 years since my Dad passed away. Fortunately, before he passed away, he learned that he was going to be a great grandfather. Unfortunately, we lost him before he was able to meet her. I know none of my grandchildren has ever met him (their Papa), but we do tell them about him.
And I wanted to make each one of them a Keepsake Shadow Box so they would always remember their Papa is watching over them.
What I used:
- A shadowbox (Michael’s had a buy 1, get 2 free sale, so I got 6)
- A onesie I made using my Cricut
- A picture of my dad (6 of them)
- Decorations for inside the box
- Something to attach the decorations to the box (I used foam mounting tape)
Laying Everything Out:
Before taking the plastic cover off of the box, I laid everything out to see how I wanted it to look. This is really a fun part because you get to be very creative and have an idea of what it’s going to look like before you put everything together. Once I had it exactly how I wanted it, I took a picture. This helps to make sure I don’t forget where each item goes.
Putting the Shadow Box Together:
Now that I know how I want it to look, I can put it together. Start by separating the back from the rest of the box (after taking the cover off, of course). Next, I laid out my items the same way I had them when I took the picture. I had the picture out to use as a reference, so I wouldn’t forget how I wanted them or how I had them laid out.
Putting the Shadow Box Back Together:
This is probably the easiest part of this entire process. Very carefully, set the backing back into the box and secure the prongs. That’s it!
Putting a keepsake shadow box together is easy and gives you a keepsake to keep or give as a gift. All you need to create your keepsake shadow box is the item you want to cherish, some decorations, something to mount the decorations to the backing, and, of course, a shadow box.
Now it’s time to start creating a keepsake shadow box of your own and share them in the comments!
