You found the graphgan you want, but the color is completely wrong, and you need to change the colors in the graphgan. Maybe you need to make a baby blanket for a little girl, but the one you like has colors for a little boy. Or maybe you just don’t like the colors. That’s okay!
It is perfectly fine to change the colors in a graphgan to fit your needs!
And it’s easy to change the colors to meet your needs. Just follow these four steps:
- Print it out.
First, once you have found the pattern you want, print it out. Just the picture. And don’t try to print it on any kind of fancy paper, because you are going to be writing on the picture.
- Mark your colors.
Second, take a pencil, pen, marker, or whatever you have handy, and write on each color that you want to change. If it’s a grey area and you want it pink, write the word ‘pink’ in those areas. Make sure you mark all of the areas that you want to change! Believe me, you don’t want to forget to mark an area only to realize it once you’ve started crocheting. That’s not fun!
- Rewrite your pattern.
Third, this part can be a little tricky and time consuming, but it’s so worth it when you are done! If you have the ability to edit your pattern before (or without) printing it out, I would suggest doing that. Looking at your picture, line by line, change the name of the colors to what you are changing it to. As I said, this part is time-consuming, but once you are done you can save it (or do a ‘save as’ and you’ve got both).
- Crochet
And now comes the fun part! Start crocheting your graphgan and watch as it becomes a beautiful treasure!
Remember, changing the colors in your graphgan is possible. It takes a little bit of work and some time, but the end result is worth it. Especially when you end up with the graphgan you really want.

Very cool! I am a knitter and never heard the graphgan, but now I get it. Good luck with your site.
